Plastic is pervasive, making its way into many aspects of our lives, including our personal care routines. At Good Earth, we are committed to sourcing more sustainable alternatives, though finding plastic-free solutions has proven to be an ongoing challenge.
It is estimated that upwards of one billion plastic toothbrushes are disposed of each year, most of which make their way into landfills.
Founded on the belief that little changes can make a big difference for our health and the planet, Brush with Bamboo’s goal is to replace plastic toothbrushes with a more sustainable alternative.
With a handle fashioned from wild, biodegradable Bamboo and a package comprised of biodegradable PLA corn plastic and cardboard, Brush with Bamboo is the world’s first plant-based toothbrush. Although Brush with Bamboo has made marked strides in creating a biodegradable alternative to the plastic toothbrush, there is still more work to be done. Currently, the only biodegradable toothbrush bristle option on the market is pig hair. Brush with Bamboo has opted to use a vegan blend of 62% Castor Bean Oil and 38% plastic while pushing their bristle manufacturers to develop better alternatives to the traditional nylon. We will continue to monitor their progress in our ongoing effort to source the most sustainable products and make them available to our customers.
