Every year, we collectively spend millions of dollars on floral arrangements. However, the price may be much higher than we think. Shipped from countries far and wide, conventionally grown flowers are heavily sprayed with pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. These dangerous chemicals are then absorbed into the bodies of the workers, the flowers, and the groundwater. Thankfully, there’s a better way!

For many months now, Mandy has been growing flowers at Tara Firma Farms in Petaluma. Every week, she comes to our store with bunches of flowers, dirt under her fingernails, and a great big smile on her face. One look at her garden, and you can see why Mandy is so proud of her work.

She plants her flowers directly into compost that has been collected from Good Earth, and then brought to the farm.

Once planted, her flowers are given rainwater from a nearby pond. By using a gravity-fed drip system, she ensures that none of this precious resource is ever wasted.

Not only are they stunningly beautiful, but she also grows her flowers without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and observes all requirements under Organic Certification regulations!

Be sure to look for Zinnias, snapdragons, and much more from her garden in our Floral Department!
