Each school day in Marin over 1,300 kids are nourished by delicious and nutritious organic lunches from Good Earth Natural Foods.
In 2003 we approached schools in the county with the idea of providing pure yet kid friendly meals at lunchtime. Today, we are happy to provide hot organic school lunch options to 1,300 kids a day at 14 schools in Marin (nine private and five public).
Good Earth makes kid-friendly foods from scratch each day, and we do not use individual packaging – instead, we use stainless steel serving pans. Four of the schools we serve have achieved zero lunch waste, that is 94% diversion from landfill.
Beginning in Fall 2013, Good Earth also helped launch The Conscious Kitchen, a project of Teens Turning Green, transforming the lunches offered to children in the Marin City School District.
The Marin City Schools, like many schools, had been heating and serving pre-packaged food in throw away containers to students (95% on free and reduced meals).
The Conscious Kitchen, a fresh local organic seasonal sustainable and non-GMO school food program, has commenced on the campus of Martin Luther King Jr. School in Marin City.
“When we met with Good Earth leadership to glean their wisdom and guidance, something else happened during the conversation,” said Judi Shils the Executive Director of Teens Turning Green, “they offered to provide two full lunches a week for as long as we needed to ensure the success of this food program, for all 120 kids. People like the ownership of Good Earth are so unique in our world – we are truly blessed to have them with us.”
