Just a half hour’s drive north of our store, in the quaint downtown section of Petaluma, you will find the Petaluma Seed Bank, home to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company’s west coast location.
The Seed Bank serves as a hub for the outlying communities of gardeners, farmers, foodies, and tourists alike, and functions as a useful tool for promoting and preserving our agricultural and culinary heritage.
The business inhabits a 90-year-old landmark building that once operated as the Sonoma County Bank. In fact, it still functions as a bank in-kind, only now flowing with the riches of over 2,000 varieties of Heirloom seeds. Baker Creek is committed to preserving biodiversity throughout our food system by carrying only open-pollinated, non-GMO, non-treated, and non-patented seed. They have earned the reputation of being outspoken about the dangers of GMOs in our food, and are a strong advocate for the labeling of GMO ingredients.
At Good Earth, we recognize that seed saving and sharing is a powerful way to take back our food supply, and make our local communities stronger and more connected. If you want to make a sound investment in the future of our sustainable food system, stop in at the Petaluma Seed Bank.
