Rancho Vasquez is a family-owned and operated, certified organic avocado orchard in Azusa, CA. The ranch is nestled in the foothills, and the property abuts the Angeles National Forest to the north. Water is supplied from the San Gabriel River with century-old water rights. The certified organic ranch consists of approximately 32 acres (over 4000 trees) of Hass, Lamb Hass, Fuerte & Reed avocados. Some of the massive Fuerte avocado trees are over 140 years old. The soil fertility program consists primarily of applications of humic acid and gypsum, with heavy mulching done by the trees themselves dropping their massive leaves to the ground below.
Art Vasquez, the farm owner, is a proud veteran with a huge heart. His sons and son-in-law run the daily operations. Avocados are typically harvested on Sunday & Monday then shipped directly to our two stores. Weekly harvesting by a dedicated crew allows for picking fruit at peak size and fat content.
Unlike avocados coming from large packing houses, this fruit is not gassed with ethylene to jump-start the ripening process. Even though these avocados take longer to ripen, they ripen more evenly allowing the deep, nutty, rich flavors to develop further.
While avocados are high in dietary fiber and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, it is their fat content that elevates them to superfood status. High in monounsaturated fat, avocados help increase the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K.
Hass avocados will be arriving in early 2018 followed by Lamb Hass and Reeds next fall. Rancho Vasquez avocados are truly the best California avocados, and we are blessed to celebrate these iconic California fruits while directly supporting a small family farm.
